Except for the majors where English is mandatory, students can choose between English, German, French and Russian. For the majority of majors, the foreign language is part of the general educational preparation, and for this reason the classes (minimum 90 study hours) are located in the first two or three semesters of the bachelor's degree studies. However, the work places an emphasis on the specific language needs of the students according to the specialty and their expected professional realization. Emphasis is also placed on developing basic academic skills in the foreign language to support students' participation in the international mobility programs offered by the university.
In several majors, a foreign language is one of the main subjects. The task of the department is very responsible in the professional training of future primary teachers with a qualification for teaching a foreign language, as well as of future specialists in Eurocommunication.
The curricula of some of the Master's and Doctoral students of the University of Ruse also includes language modules; for the latter, a 100-hour specialized course is held.
